My wonderful hubby recently bought me a serger. BEST. PRESENT. EVER. I think I have used it every day since opening the box two weeks ago. I am officially addicted to sewing, and may never leave my house again (well except for more fabric). Especially now that I have a dedicated sewing area.
My first "big" project was making the girl's Easter dresses. I found a darling pattern, read up on how to make the "rolled hem" and in 6 hours I had made 2 dresses. Not too bad, right? And for $15 a dress!!! I will be making Ansley's clothes a lot from now on :)
I wanted their dresses to be exactly the same, but when I fell in love with a print that was too big for my tiny Olivia, I went with cooridinating not matching. The sashes are the same on both.
The shirring detail- which is like smocking, with elastic thread. If anyone is interested in shirring, Sandy Henderson's blog, portabellopixie.typepad has a wonderful tutorial. It was shockingly easy. And I have to say, I am pretty proud of my straight lines! I didn't even use chalk!

Those are so absolutely adorable!!!! I'm so excited for you to teach me. Oh my word, honestly so much better than I ever imagined! (In the best way possible.) Can't wait to see them in person. Brit :o)
wow!!! So cute! :) Can't wait to see pics of them wearing their dresses!
You did a great job!!! Beautiful
I love them! But wasn't it less than a week ago you were out shopping for already made dresses? How did you whip up that awesome and amazing alternate plan so fast? Can you give me some of that "get it done" kind of motivation?
These are beautiful! Great job! They look so professional and boutiquey. I have GOT to start sewing so that I can make cute things for Thatcher!!
OK, I need you to Facebook me so I can find you! I can't find you!
I love them!! What great work you did!!
Oh my goodness, you amaze me. Can we sew on Thursday? You inspire me to sew more and maybe you can be my sewing mentor, look at what you have done, plus I need girl ideas.
You are so crafty, I am so impressed. Look at you! You are going to bring a whole new meaning to Taylor-made.
These are beautiful, Taylor! I am so impressed!!
